Megan Ridenour has been on My Family Dentistry staff since August of 2008, and we’re so glad to have her!
As Dr. Mullins’s dental assistant, Megan gets patients comfortable in the dental chair, answers their questions, helps break down the barriers to comfort and gets people to open up about their dental issues – not to mention assists Dr. Wes with his procedures!
Originally from Norris, Megan married her high school sweetheart Chris in 2007. They now have a son, Noah, who is 4, and a one-year-old daughter, Abigail. In their spare time, they “just do kids’ stuff” and hang out together as a family.
And now, the questionnaire:
What makes My Family Dentistry special?
“I feel like we all just try to go that extra mile, and not treat you like a paycheck. I’ve seen Wes go start old ladies’ cars for them and hold umbrellas for them.” Megan says that while a lot of practices would turn away a walk-in emergency, “We try to be very accommodating, especially with people who are in pain. We’ll get you in, and we’ll get you out of pain.”
What’s your favorite thing about working with patients?
“The end result!” Megan likes to see people get the treatment they need, and helping patients make good decisions is a part of that. She says she likes to think, for example, “If you were my dad, this is what I would want for you – just to put it in perspective.”
How can dentistry change people’s lives?
“Patients come in and say ‘I’ve lost my smile’… a lot of people don’t realize how much their teeth mean to them,” until the teeth are damaged or even lost. So, in Megan’s experience, “it’s the big treatments that really change people’s lives.”
Best Tennessee tip:
“Check out the state parks! I think the state parks get overlooked.” Megan suggests taking advantage of the free activities for kids that many parks offer, like the ones at Norris Dam State Park.
Favorite flavor of ice cream:
Chocolate peanut butter!
Best scar story:
“I’ve played softball my whole life, and I have this huge scar above my eyebrow where I got hit with a bat”
Favorite autumn activity:
Taking the Blue Ridge Parkway, or going to Asheville with her mom to take advantage of their season tickets to Biltmore.
